So we had a pretty busy weekend. My parents dropped by for a visit, on their way back to Israel from a trip in the Seattle-Vancouver area. We spent Friday together mostly wondering around Cambridge. We visited the Harvard Natural History Museum (Avigail gets free entrance for the two of us!). We had time to see only two rooms there - the famous glass flowers one and the meteorites, minerals and gemstones one. Dinner we had at an Italian restaurant called Lucca situated in Boston’s North End (we told you we'd return there).
On Saturday some of my family from New York joined us (they simply drove from there to Boston. Hint hint). We spent most of the day in Boston, starting at the observatory of Prudential Center. Very much like Azrieli’s - 50th floor, 360 degrees view and you get this mobile audio guide. I really like bird’s eye views of metropolitans and this one was no exception:
.
Avigail and I had a vegetarian Burrito for lunch - I indeed officially like Mexican food now!
Next we headed to the 5th Boston Arts Festival. When advertising the festival, it looked like it was going to be very lively and crowded. It might have been, then, the heavy heat that day that drew people away from the festival (we really didn't have any luck with weather - on those two days it was 30+ degrees and sunny, while today 23…). The two attractions for us were: (a) the fact that the Arts Festival is officially called the (ähts) Festival. That’s due to the Bostonian accent - they just skip the 'r' here. Very difficult to understand, but we find it amusing. (b) the unforgettable performance of The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus. Yep, that’s right. They're celebrating 25 years now, and yes, they sound like any other men-only chorus. They look somewhat more colorful though:
I have a short video clip of their performance I'll upload and post soon.
In the evening we had some nice Chinese dinner with yet more members of my family from Acton, a town 30 minutes west of here.
Feel free to browse the photos we took that day in Boston. Also, photos of our apartment (through its different stages of readiness for hosting us) are available here.
